Switzerland Bombardier Global 5500 Charter

The Bombardier Global 5500 is the Pearl 15 re-engined update to the Global 5000, with 5,900 nautical miles of range and Bombardier’s Vision cabin. for Switzerland clients, the 5500 is the shorter-range Global sibling that will actually depart GVA at close to a full mission load on more days of the year than the larger 6500 or 7500.

Bombardier delivered the first Global 5500 in 2020, re-engining the 5000 airframe with Rolls-Royce Pearl 15 turbofans and updating the cabin to the current Vision standard. The airframe is 96.8 feet long, 94 feet wingspan, 25.5 feet tall. Cabin is trimmed for 13 in a typical layout, up to 16 max.

Why the Global 5500 Fits Switzerland

Long-range aircraft like the Bombardier Global 5500 are what Swiss clients book when the trip crosses an ocean without a fuel stop. Both airports are fully slot-coordinated. The window is agreed rather than chosen, and that matters more on a long-haul departure than the aircraft does. Geneva needs prior approval for a layover of more than a few hours, so if the aircraft is waiting rather than turning, that is arranged in advance. Your advisor will confirm what the operator can actually do on your dates before anything is booked.

Switzerland-Specific Patterns We Plan Around

Charter demand in Switzerland concentrates around ski season, running December through March,
with Samedan (LSZS) and Bern-Belp (LSZB) seeing the heaviest private traffic during that period.
The World Economic Forum at Davos drives January demand to a sharp peak in eastern Switzerland.
Art Basel in June, the Locarno Film Festival in August, and the Montreux Jazz Festival over the summer
each bring concentrated charter demand. Geneva (GVA) and Zurich (ZRH) handle the bulk of inbound
and outbound flights, with Euroairport Basel-Mulhouse (BSL) serving the Basel corridor. Slot and
ground-handler coordination matters at all three; your advisor plans around it from the outset.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
