Midsize jets are the Switzerland-to-Europe workhorse. Seven to nine seats, range typically 2,000 to 2,800 nautical miles, and enough cabin space for a full working day in the air. From Zurich or Geneva the category reaches every major European city, most of the Middle East, and portions of Central Asia in a single leg.
Typical Aircraft
The Cessna Citation Excel, Citation XLS, and XLS+, the Hawker 800/800XP/850XP/900XP, the Learjet 60, the Falcon 50, and the Gulfstream G200 are the common midsize platforms. All offer enclosed lavatories, stand-up or near-stand-up headroom, and dedicated baggage compartments separate from the cabin.
When Midsize Fits the Switzerland Trip
Zurich or Geneva to London, Moscow, Dubai, Riyadh, or Cairo all fit a midsize jet. Multi-stop European road shows where the group is six to eight passengers are the most common midsize booking out of Switzerland. The step up from a light jet is most justified when the passenger count pushes above six or when baggage requirements exceed what a light jet can carry.
Vetting Behind Every Trip
Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:
- FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
- Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
- Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
- Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
Switzerland-Specific Patterns We Plan Around
Ski season runs December through March and drives the sharpest demand spikes we see. Samedan airport (serving St. Moritz) and Bern-Belp (serving the Bernese Oberland, including Grindelwald) handle mountain transfers; book early for January and February. The World Economic Forum in Davos each January compresses Zurich-area availability significantly. Art Basel in June is the Basel demand window. For summer events such as the Locarno Film Festival and the Montreux Jazz Festival, advance notice on aircraft gives us more routing options.
